Ahmet vigorously defends Muslim minority rights in Parliament. He defends Turkish education, public Turkish use, and religious freedom. He also promotes minority status as Turks, not Muslims. In Greece, Ahmet’s activism is controversial. He is accused of being a separatist and threatening national unity. His 1990 sentence for “insulting the Greek nation.” is 18 months.
